Excellent results achieved by University College Dublin International Foundation Year students

The University College Dublin (UCD) International Study Centre’s (ISC) first cohort of International Foundation Year students have now completed their first year of undergraduate study at Ireland’s largest university. Feedback from the university has indicated that students have performed very well with learners showing excellent levels of preparedness for university study. The ISC staff were particularly pleased that the highest performing student in the first year Bachelor of Commerce (which is the top Business Studies degree in Ireland) was an International Foundation Year student, the first time any international student has achieved this. We wish all the students further success in their academic careers, we are sure they will continue to be great ambassadors for the ISC in Dublin.

UCD climbs to 161 from 187 in 2013

The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings draws upon a number of indicators to produce a ranking of the top higher education institutions globally. The thirteen indicators cover five areas: teaching, research, citations, knowledge transfer and international outlook. It also includes a reputation survey undertaken by over 10,000 academics.

This year, University College Dublin’s ranking rose 26 places from 187 to 161. The main areas where UCD improved its scores in the THE ranking were in publications per academic, citation impact and international co-authorship.  These indicators all fall within the category of improved quality and productivity.

Reacting to University College Dublin’s rise in the Times Higher Education university rankings, the president of UCD, Dr Hugh Brady said:

“UCD’s climb up the THE rankings is a great credit to our staff who, have worked tirelessly to maintain the high quality experience offered to our students, sustain our world-class research programmes, strengthen our ties with industry and civic organisations, grow our overseas programmes and greatly enhance our campus infrastructure.’’
